Our History

The United Swiss Society of Northern California (USSNC) has a very rich history dating back to February 20, 1910 when a group of Swiss men got together with the vision of uniting the 17 -20 Swiss Clubs around San Francisco and the surrounding areas. Their goal was for all the clubs to come together, uniting our Swiss Colony, by working together to support, promote and maintain our Swiss traditions.

In 1912 the organization became official. With the vision of many Swiss activities and a Swiss house to hold them in they set out with Switzerland’s Slogan “One for All and All for One”. In 1952 their dream became a reality when they purchased the Canada Road Park in Woodside. The club was later forced to sell the park to the City of San Francisco in 1959. The club went through a name change, merged with the Swiss House association with the goal of finding another Swiss House, which they never did.

In 1982 they were renamed USSNC, a cultural committee was later formed offering programs with Swiss artists. Throughout the years USSNC has maintained its mission of celebrating Swiss traditions by holding events at Swiss Park in Newark.

Today our organization is creative, flexible, innovative, and collaborative in recreating ourselves digitally during the Coronavirus pandemic. Going digital we have reached beyond our community to Swiss around the United States with our Swiss Kids Camp via zoom and Virtual TV show for Swiss National Day and creating our first online auction. We have honored our founders, stayed true to our mission, and stand strong by our slogan, “One for All and All for One.”
